O.G.

O.G. is the sweetest and cutest ( O.G. prefers the term handsomest) Chihuahua dog I have ever met. He is a love bug and I can't imagine he will be in foster care very long! While he is here, we will be trying to figure out what his initials stand for. Maybe " Overly Great"? Let us know what you think!

History:  O.G came into foster care as an owner surrender, along with another housemate named Booker.  Their current owner worked three jobs and didn't have time for these guys, so she chose to rehome them for their own good.

************

Age:  1 year

Neutered:  Not yet, scheduled for March 14, 2022

Breed:  Chihuahua, Long hair, Male

Size: Tiny

Weight:  6 pounds and is on the thin but athletic side

Medical:  Healthy Fully Vaccinated, and Heartworm Free.

Housebroken:   Not Fully, He knows to go outside but has had a few accidents in the house.  This may just be temporary from his adjusting to a new home and new routines.

Crate Trained:  Yes and No.  He will stay in a crate, and is not afraid of it, but spent his first night crated whining ALL night long. He sounds like a squeaky toy mixed with a puppy and a guinea pig.  He also managed to move his crate a few feet across the floor during the night.  This could have been a result of separation anxiety and not crating issues.

Good with cats:  Yes! He wants to be friends with our cats, but they are bigger than he is, so no play dates yet.

Good with smaller animals : Should be. Unless you have a hamster or a bird, OG is probably going to be the smallest animal around!

Good with Dogs : Yes, if the other dogs are friendly. He can be intimidated and fearful around big dogs until he gets to know them, but was friendly and accepting of both our big dogs (both of whom are over 60 lbs each) He did act ferocious to another larger dog while on a walk at the vet clinic so caution is advised, and supervised introductions are recommended, mostly for his safety.

A word of caution:   A playful or aggressive larger dog would  easily be able to seriously hurt  or injure O.G. without even trying.  I would recommend a home with other  smaller dogs for him, and think he would enjoy having a buddy.

Good with Kids :  Owners said: Yes, loves kids and doesn't mind being picked up or held by them.  Once again, due to his tiny size, younger children may need to be supervised around him to make sure they don't accidentally hurt him.

Good with People : OG seems to enthusiastically love everyone he meets and can easily be picked up and held by anyone.

Good with Travel:  Not a fan of car rides yet. Whined and wiggled constantly on our first ride home together. This may have just been his nervousness since we weren't yet acquainted.  Will update later once we are better friends and can take a ride together again!

Personality:  O.G. is a sweetheart who doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body. However, he seems to have a bit of separation anxiety that may resolve itself once he settles in to foster life.  He adores his people and wants to be with them constantly. He is energetic and curious and very athletic! He likes to be taller, and will jump up on couches, chairs, tables, counters, and even his people in his quest to explore and conquer new heights.  He would be very easy to train to do cute tricks like dance, jump, and turn because he is smart and likes treats! He is also very affectionate and loves to give you cuddles and kisses.

Grooming:  Moderate. He will need regular brushing which he loves, and an occasional bath and hair trim.  He will let you touch and handle every part of his body, so grooming should not be a problem.

Toys,Treats, Food:  O.G. has a very eager appetite and is easy to feed. He will benefit from a tiny kibble and smaller treats since he has a very tiny mouth, but don't mention that in front of him.  He considers himself manly enough to eat like a big dog!  His owners said he is food aggressive towards other dogs, so we feed him alone. He doesn't seem food aggressive towards people though. He  eats  very quickly and would benefit from a slow feeder bowl. He seems to like toys and loves treats.  He even tried to chew on a buffalo horn that was bigger than he is!

Training:  O.G. seems to know his name, and walks well on a leash with his harness. He seems like he would be easy to train and eager to learn. He has an adventurous and energetic spirit that will enable him to excel with training that uses positive reinforcement. He is a Chihuahua though, and can be a little independent minded at times.

Bad Habits:   O.G. likes food, and trash cans, and trash cans full of food so be warned: he could turn into a trash goblin very quickly if left unattended near a temptation. He also likes stinky stuff and wants to wear stink like a cologne. He also likes to climb and will quickly figure out a way to use your furnishings to get on the tables and countertops, especially if there is food up there calling his name!

Exercise Needs:  Minimal. Just walking or running around the average house will be the equivalent of a mini marathon for this little guy! Couple that with his love of counter surfing and furniture climbing and he will be fit enough for the Chihuahua Olympics!

Special Needs:  O.G. mostly just needs a home mindful of his small size and his lack of awareness of his tiny stature. He is a big dog in a little body and often feels invincible and super heroic!  He is liable to take flying leaps off furniture, and will be underfoot busily protecting your ankles from any stray dust bunnies prowling the floor. He's also fast enough to beat you to the best seat on the couch or chair and seems to like flirting with death that's likely to result from being sat on!

Medication:  Current on all vaccinations and will get any boosters needed when he is neutered. He has been given a Proheart 12 injection for a year's worth of heartworm prevention, and will take Simparica as needed for flea control.  Otherwise, he is healthy and has no need for medications.
